On the occasion of him celebration of world DNA day (April 25) to celebrate the discovery of the DNA double helix (1953) and the completion of mapping the human genome (2003), the Tin Biology from the AUTHin collaboration with Panhellenic Union of Bioscientists, organizes a two-day event, on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 April 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Department of Biology of the AUTH.

Students of the 2nd Lyceum will visit its premises Department of Biology of the AUTH and they will participate in four thematic workshops, so that they can get to know the science of Biology in an interactive way, up close and beyond the textbook.

In particular, they will visit the Department of Biology students from the 1st and 2nd GEL of Kalamaria, the 1st GEL of Pylaia, the 2nd GEL of Evosmos, the 10th GEL of Thessaloniki, the 15th GEL of Thessaloniki, the 12th GEL of Thessaloniki, the 3rd GEL of Stavroupolis, the 2nd GEL of Neapolis, the GEL of Sindos, the GEL Mygdonias and IGEL Mantoulidis.

According to the organizers, “biological literacy is essential for the personal and social integration of all people, because it provides the tools for understanding ourselves and the world in which we live and on which we depend. The Department of Biology of the AUTH and the Panhellenic Union of Bioscientists, with a sense of responsibility towards society, contribute to the dissemination and consolidation of biological knowledge among tomorrow’s citizens.

Biology is a dominant science of the 21st century and its applications have already begun to significantly change the daily life of man. It is necessary today for students to be equipped with the knowledge that will allow them to realize their position and responsibility towards the environment and will help them make future decisions about their health, their daily habits, social ethics and their work”.
