After the strong hailstorm that took place on the evening of Sunday, April 21, in the area of the settlements of Yaka, P.E. Rhodopis, there are widespread disasters in the area’s cherries in percentages that are currently estimated at over 90%.
For this reason, early on Monday morning (22/4), Rodopi Member of Parliament Ilhan Ahmed visited the affected areas together with the ELGA supervisor Mr. Sergio Katsikis, where he saw the scale of the disaster up close. This was followed by communication with the head of ELGA in Alexandroupoli, Mr. Dimitris Pantazis, who gave the assurance that he himself will do an on-site inspection in the next few days to immediately start the process of recording the compensation beneficiaries.
Mr. Ilhan Ahmed stated that the next period of time will bring directly to the decision-making centers the issue of compensations in order to have a fair treatment of the problem that has arisen for a large portion of our fellow citizens who make a living from the cultivation of the cherry in Rhodope. He emphasized that he has always been on the side of the farmers of the region and will continue to do so in his current term.
