The Municipality appeals to the citizens “to observe the rules provided by the cleanliness regulation so that together we can keep our city clean and not further burden the employees of the Municipal Authority”
The Press Office of the Municipality of Heraklion sent a response to the comment of the newspaper “Nea Kriti” published on neakriti.gr regarding the collection of waste in Mastaba.
As he states, “on the occasion of your publication entitled “Mastabas: Garbage collection is problematic” in the “Nea Kritis” paper of Monday 04-22-2024 and on the neakriti.gr portal and for the information of your readers, we must emphasize that the collection of waste in the Municipality of Heraklion continues without problems in all areas without exception from Monday to Friday and in most of them also every Saturday and Sunday based on the planning that exists by the Department of Collection of Waste and Recyclable Materials of the Directorate of Cleaning and Recycling of the Municipality of Heraklion.
The image captured in the photos of the report is not so much due to the amount of waste as to the improper disposal of it by the citizens. In this case, the paper boxes which, according to the cleanliness regulations of the Municipality of Heraklion, should be folded inside the bins, have unfortunately been placed in their original shape, with the result that the bins are filled from their volume and, consequently, other citizens are forced to leave waste outside the bins.
On the occasion of the incident, I would like to appeal to our fellow citizens, to observe the rules provided by the cleanliness regulation so that together we can keep our city clean and not further burden the employees of the Municipal Authority who make a huge effort every day to this direction and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for that.”
