Easter is upon us and dozens of families of Patras who do not have the essentials, will set their festive table with food that will be offered to them by the Municipality, the Church and the various associations that have developed charitable activities in recent years.

Patras is a city still plagued by poverty and unemployment, with dozens of households having incomes below the poverty line.

The Social Organization and the Municipality will once again distribute food on the eve of Holy Week to more than 1,000 families (actually 1,030) which correspond to more than 2,500 people. The distribution will be done through the Social Grocery and these families will be given meat, sweets and other items for the Easter table.

For its part, the Holy Diocese of Patras and the local church will give food to over 2,000 families who are below the poverty line and are having a hard time.

In addition to the distribution of food on Easter days, the distribution of ready-made food will also continue. The Municipality will distribute at home, as it does on a daily basis, close to 250 portions of food to people who are in need and unable to leave their homes, having various problems.

For its part, the Bread of Love, which provides almost 450 portions of ready-made food daily, will continue cooking on the days of Easter, while the parishes of Agia Sophia and Agia Triada, which have their own kitchens, will also do the same.

We note that on April 26, the Holy Diocese of Patras and the Region of Western Greece is organizing again this year the “Give Present” event where every citizen can leave a bag of food which will be given to the families the Church helps and will strengthen its charity work.
