The police handcuffed a 56-year-old man in Thessaloniki for attempted extortion and defamation, who, together with his 39-year-old accomplice, asked for money so as not to defame their victims.

The police reached their tracks, when a 46-year-old complained that early April met in eastern Thessaloniki with the 39-year-old, after mediation by the 56-year-old, in order to help him in a personal matter but threatened him with defamation. After an unsuccessful agreement between them, which also included monetary compensation, the 39-year-old assisted by his accomplice, demanded sums of money in order not to defame him in electronic and print media.

In addition, police officers filed another case file against the 39-year-old for the same crimes, following a summons submitted by a 44-year-old who stated that a few days ago they met in the area of Ampelokipi and agreed to help him professionally, by advertising him online, for a sum of money.

Due to non-payment of one installment (2,480 euros) of the pre-agreed amount, the perpetrator threatened the 44-year-old and his friend who had mediated so that they could come into contact, that he would defame them, while subsequently increased the monetary claim to 14,880 euros.
