The opening of the Easter 40th Anniversary Exhibition “Crete: The Great Meeting – Local Products and Tastes of Greece”, was held yesterday, in Pasalimani, by the Mayor of Piraeus Yiannis Moralis, the organizer of the exhibition Nektarios Sermakis, the Deputy Governor of the Agricultural Economy of the Region of Crete Stavros Tzedakis and the President of the Cretan Brotherhood of Piraeus “Omonoia” Theodoros Tsondos.

For nine days, visitors will have the opportunity to try, taste and purchase traditional products of unique nutritional value from the producers of Crete, but also from other regions of Greece and get to know the history behind the traditional products.

In parallel, with the operation of the sixty exhibition stands, the exhibition is a lively cultural “journey”, with a program of daily music and dance events. More than 70 cultural associations and music and dance clubs from every corner of Greece will accompany the 40th event, presenting their activities and their cultural imprint.

The exhibition is under the auspices of the Municipality of Piraeus and is held with the support of the Region of Crete, the Cretan Brotherhood of Piraeus “The Omonia” and the Group for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands.

During the opening ceremony, Mr. Moralis, together with his wife Ms. Valia Kyriazi-Moralis, toured the stands and talked to exhibitors.

The Mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, in his statement, emphasized:

“The Cretan Community in Piraeus is one of the largest Communities and is expressed through the Brotherhood of Cretans of Piraeus “The Unity” and the friend President Thodoris Tsontos. We are especially happy that the Cretan element in Piraeus is very strong and that our friend Nektarios Sermakis, for the tenth year, is holding the exhibition in Pasalimani, which showcases mainly Cretan products and not only.

You know the indirect relationship I have with Crete and how much I appreciate its people, but also its hospitality, its music, its food. I would like to invite the people of Piraeus not only to visit the exhibition, to enjoy and to purchase the traditional products. I wish you success in the exhibition and I would like to thank Mr. Sermakis for our good cooperation over time.”

The organizer of the exhibition Nektarios Sermakis, in his statement, noted among other things: “When we talk about extroversion in Crete, our mind “travels” to the beautiful Piraeus, where we have “built” friendships with the Mayor Yiannis Moralis and with the entire Primary School Council, always with the assistance of the Piraeus Cretan Brotherhood “Omonoia” and its President Theodoros Tsondos.

Crete produces excellent quality products, it is an island gifted and blessed in terms of weather conditions and this allows a wide variety of products to be produced at the same time.”

Municipal Councilor Elina Verykaki, from the Municipality of Piraeus, attended the opening.
