The High Bridge of Serbia was visited, yesterday afternoon, by the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos.

At the last stop of his tour in Kozani, Florina and Prespes, Mr. Triandopoulos was informed by the regional governor Giorgos Amanatidis and the deputy regional governor of Technical Works Harisios Govedaros about the restoration work of the problems presented by the bridge two years ago.

In collaboration with the engineers and professors of the Polytechnic School of AUTH, Kostantinos Katakalos and Panagiotis Panetsos, the test loadings at the ends of the cantilever M4-1, M5-1, M6-1 of the Bridge were completed, after the necessary reinforcements had been made to the cantilever M6 -2.

Mr. Amanatidis explained that the above works are being carried out in the context of the preventive strength control of the Serbion Bridge and that in the next period the works of total strengthening, upgrading and restoration of it, which has been maintained since 1975, when it was built, will be auctioned.

The Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, Stathis Konstantinidis and the MP Michalis Papadopoulos were also present at the briefing on the progress of the bridge restoration projects.

The High Bridge of Serbia, 1,372 meters long, is one of the longest bridges in Greece. It was built on the occasion of the creation of the artificial Polyphytos lake as a result of the PPC dam of the same name and was put into use in 1975. In the last two years, restoration work has been carried out on the bridge cantilevers due to the intense oxidation of the load-bearing organism.
