The new week will begin with ups and downs in the weather, as from the heavy rains and snows, we will again be led to African dust, mud rains and heat, according to Klearchos Marousakis.

Dust and… barometric low from Africa

The barometric low will transport large amounts of African dust but also very warm air masses into the middle and lower troposphere.

As the meteorologist explains, the absence of winter this year led warm air masses from Africa more easily and more often to higher latitudes. In fact, when they encounter colder and more humid air masses on their way to the central Mediterranean, they form barometric lows which pick up large amounts of African dust on their way.

We will face such a situation in the new week where a barometric low from the interior of Africa will move further north, raising very large amounts of African dust which will reach our country relatively easily. In fact, as this barometric low will take moisture from the Mediterranean, it will also bring us rains – muddy rains.

This barometric low is marked with a yellow arrow on the map

The atmosphere is suffocating with African dust, 35 degrees and stormy winds

This development will cause very high temperatures towards the western mainland and northern Crete where towards northern Crete it is possible to encounter temperatures close to 35° degrees Celsius and in combination with the large concentrations of African dust will lead to a fairly heavy atmosphere.

This barometric low, combined with other barometric arrangements further north and east, will also create a large pressure difference which in turn will cause very stormy winds to the southern parts of our country which, interacting with the topography, will act as downdrafts (downstream of air).
