‘Ozempic face’ sweeps Hollywood: Sunken eyes, thin cheeks and sagging skin

Experts say this is due to the rise in popularity of weight loss drugs. They have even called him “the face of ozempic”, the sugar drug that more and more people are using to lose weight.

Dr. Smita Ramanadam, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, told the Daily Mail: “Ozempic’s face is essentially the same features we see when patients have rapid weight loss. We see volume loss in the face, and when we lose fat from the face, we see signs like more sunken eyes, more sagging skin, and a general hollowing of the features. Sometimes, this can make the person actually look older – because the fat in our cheeks is what gives us a more youthful appearance.’

Dr. Sue Decotis, a weight loss expert who has prescribed Ozempic to thousands of patients, added that weight loss appears more dramatic in those with longer faces because of the way the skin stretches.

More than 9 million prescriptions for Ozempic were written in the last three months of 2022 as the drug takes the US by storm.

The Daily Mail showed surgeons – including Dr. Nicholas Jones – photos of 15 celebrities who had recent weight loss transformations, with doctors concluding that more than half – mostly men – had Ozempic face.

It was harder for women to understand, they said, because traditionally they are more likely to use fillers and cover imperfections with makeup.

Huge difference in John Goodman

Topping the list was John Goodman, who, experts said, had drastically less facial volume and, as a result, more loose, wrinkled skin.

Dr. Ramanadam said: “He hasn’t been in the news for anything about Ozempic, so I don’t know if that’s to blame.. But even with simple weight loss you see more lines, more wrinkles and more discharge on his face as he loses weight. These changes are simply very typical of overall weight loss, regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”

John Goodman, 71, has lost 90 pounds in more than a decade, which he attributes to eating smaller portions, walking his dogs daily, and at one point cutting sugar and alcohol out of his diet.

Next on the list is Scott Disick – heavily rumored to be taking Ozempic – with doctors noting the sunken areas under his eyes.

Of course, doctors said it’s unusual for weight-loss drugs to cause such a dramatic change in appearance, suggesting other factors may be at play — including whether he was using the drugs aggressively.

They also listed Robbie Williams among the Ozempiv-faced celebrities, with Dr. Ramanandam says: “You may see a hollow under the eyes and cheeks and more wrinkles appearing due to volume loss. With Robbie, you can see immediate weight loss results.”

Dr. Decotis added: “He looks like a completely different person! He has a longer face, which means the weight loss definitely makes him look bony.”

The famous singer himself revealed that his weight loss was due to “something like Ozempic” and called the weight loss a “Christmas miracle”.

Among women, both doctors said Sharon Osbourne was the most dramatic example of the Ozempic person, with Osbourne herself revealing she lost 20kg on Ozempic and then “couldn’t stop losing weight”. .

“Her eyes look more sunken, her cheeks have more hollowness,” said Dr. Ramanadam. “There is also significant volume loss in the face and more wrinkles associated with it.”

Both also pointed to the nasolabial fold — or the line that runs from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth — which they said had become more pronounced.
