As the MP pointed out in her question, the A.T. Maleviziou, although he has under his responsibility a large area which, especially during the tourist season, is overwhelmed by the tourist population, however it has not been classified as A.T. of tourist interest, with the result that it does not receive the intended support.

In this context, presenting all those numerical data that prove the necessity of aid and support the request for belonging to the tourist interest A.T. Mrs. Vacina requested the reinforcement of the department with staff, even now, as she was left out of any reinforcement.

But in his answer, Mr. Nikolakopoulos typically mentions that “the tables in question were drawn up after taking into account, on the one hand, the real service needs, as they were formed for all the police services of the country and in particular those of the General Police Directorate of Attica (G.A.D. .A.) – the territorial jurisdiction of which constitutes the largest urban center with the most service needs”, showing that Attica is a priority.

At the same time, he emphasizes that “the D.A. Heraklion implements, in its areas of responsibility (including the area of territorial responsibility of A.T. Malevizio), the prepared Special Operational Plans and based on them, by its existing Services – now the parallel activity of the other special operational Teams (DI.AS. , O.P.E. and O.E.P.A.) – on a daily basis and around the clock, regular and systematic checks are carried out, as well as specialized actions (mounted patrols, excursions, workshops – inspection teams, etc.)”.

There is talk of a grid of policing actions in the areas of territorial responsibility of the AT. Maleviziou, with Mr. Nikolakopoulos noting that daily patrols and checks are carried out by the AT. Maleviziou and the other police services as well as the Police Operations Department of Heraklion, while special operational actions are being planned.

In her statement, Mrs. Vacina states: “The “hot” potato of policing and establishing a sense of security in citizens falls once again on the “backs” of the few police officers, who are called to go beyond what is humanly possible, to risk even their very lives, trying to meet tasks that multiply during the summer months.
It is the responsibility of the State to ensure the necessary manpower in the police services. The A.T. Maleviziou is a typical example of A.T. which is left … to its own devices, with the tourist traffic having already started and the police personnel being called upon to deal with the situation without any support from the State, despite the successive warnings from both the police unions and through parliamentary interventions. For another summer we will have to place our hopes … in Luck and the Goddesses, for everything to run smoothly”.
