The father of the sole survivor of the first carriage of the fatal passenger train 56 in Tempi, Gerasimos Georgiadis, spoke at the event on the tragedy in Tempi held in the auditorium of TEE Magnesia.

It is recalled that the 20-year-old Gerasimos is still fighting to stay alive. He is the only survivor from carriage 1 that burned to the ground in the collision between the two trains in Tempe, which claimed the lives of 57 people. The unfortunate young man remains in a coma and continues to give a brave fight for his life.

Gerasimos Georgiadis has been hospitalized in a Boston hospital since November, where the doctors are fighting a titanic battle. “As a father I want to say a huge thank you to God, the people, the doctors, everyone who helped the child get here. A huge thank you to my family” he said excitedly.

The event was titled “Tempe 2023-2024. This crime should not be covered up” and was done on the initiative of the Association “Tempi 2023”, citizens of Volos, the student associations of the University of Thessaly, the Unified Association of Teachers of ΤΥ, the Association of Laboratory Teaching Staff of ΤΥ, the Association of Special Technical Laboratory Staff of ΤΥ and of the Administrative Staff Association of ΤΥ.

“Nine minutes before the departure of the train, Gerasimos was playing a song on the piano and at that time I said to put on clothes to take him to Thessaloniki or to put on a suit and take him to the train. Thinking that I was sending him by a safe means to his destination I chose the latter. I will never get over this,” said Dionysis Georgiadis according to magnesianews.gr.

“My mistake for letting him go on the train. We caught the train by ten seconds. If we knew trains were dangerous, our children wouldn’t travel,” he added.

President Maria Karystianou and Eleni Vasara spoke on behalf of the Tempo Association.
