Walking on the abandoned tracks of the Ptolemaida Railway Station, a “forgotten” piece of Local History! (report by Koulas Poulassihidou)

--

How is it true to be in a Railway Station, which has immersed itself for more than half a century in the “History of the Greek Railway”, to see it languish?

Walking on the abandoned tracks of the Ptolemais Railway Station, which has been left to crumble after the last train whistle in 2010, what you think is that “the trains that left took with them besides the thousands of dreams that were “stacked” in the Dock and a big part of our Local History!

From 1953 when the Ptolemaida Railway Station was built until 2010, trains with wagons full of travelers came and went, while the building that was once bustling with life, has now been left to the decay of time. Today the lines are empty, without a train and with a “forgotten” wagon still resisting the oblivion of time, reminding that there used to be “LIFE”!

Abandoned and looted, the whole area causes sadness and sadness for those who have “life experiences” at our Station, which once flourished with the transport of people and goods, but also as a place for recreation and student excursions. How can a place decline and remain inactive for decades, which if granted by the OSE to the Municipality of Eordaia would have been turned into a “resort” or perhaps the Ministry of Culture could undertake the maintenance and utilization of similar buildings that no longer serve the transport project, but the cultural promotion of the place.

There is also the other version, no matter how utopian it sounds, regarding “who really would not want a modern and completely safe Railway Network to operate in our City, if in the final analysis the “hopes” through some “vague” positions are realized of the most optimistic, that the Train will “whistle again” someday in Ptolemaida…

My sincere thanks to Trainer Stelios Andronikidis and my fellow students of the MODER Department of the School of Higher Vocational Training of Ptolemaida (formerly DIEK), for their important contribution to the creation of the video and the report.
