The big time has arrived for the “Spartans”. On Wednesday, April 24, the A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court will proceed with the declaration of the parties that will participate in the European elections of June 9, and all the attention is directed to the “Spartans”, after the objections against their participation filed by ND and New Left.
If the country’s supreme court finally excludes the party from participating in the European elections in June, it is estimated that this decision may also weigh on the Electoral Court, which is called upon to decide on objections to the legality of the election of the “Spartia” MPs in which, as we have mentioned, affects the distribution of seats in 2023 and of course a seat in Heraklion.
If the party’s MPs eventually fall from office, constitutional experts have described two possible scenarios:
-The first concerns the distribution of their seats to the other parliamentary parties and
-The second wants repeat elections to be held in the 12 regions where the “Spartans” have elected MPs.
A third, less likely scenario speaks of a recalculation of the election result of June 25, 2023 without the party’s votes being counted, while a fourth version refers to the possibility of the 12 seats of the “Spartans” being occupied by the party’s first cross-party candidate who had the largest unallocated balance in each region.
Be that as it may, however, it is estimated that everything will depend on the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the participation of the party in the European elections.
