Employees of the archaeological services who participated in the archaeological research and work in the great ring of the city of Ioannina as part of a related sub-project remain unpaid.

Although the project of the ring has secured funding from the NSRF, it is unknown why the money for the archaeological research has not been paid.

The workers’ union expresses its protest to the Municipality of Ioannina and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ioannina pointing out the need to pay the accrued wages.

“At a time when punctuality is galloping with the result that workers cannot cope with even their basic obligations and their salary disappears in the first 15 days of the month, it is infuriating that there are public works workers who have remained unpaid since December of 2023. Even more so when the Easter holidays are coming in a few days and the needs and obligations are even greater and there is no official information that the workers on the project in question will be paid.

Once again, it seems clear that Municipalities, Regions and the Ministry of Culture do not prioritize workers and the timely payment of their accruals. Instead, they immediately find solutions to serve the interests of contractors.

This situation cannot continue any longer, on the one hand worrying about whether we will have a job and on the other hand being unpaid for months. A solution should be provided immediately and the employees’ accrued wages should be paid,” the announcement states.
