Western Greece – Shocking figures: 56 suicide attempts and 38 suicides

The data concerning the suicides of people for health, emotional or financial reasons in Western Greece are shocking.

According to the Police statistics posted on its official website, in 2022 throughout the country, 950 suicide attempts and 505 suicides were recorded, of which 435 were men and 70 were women.

In 2022, 56 attempted suicides and 38 suicides were recorded in the General Police Directorate of the Western Greece Region, of which 34 involved men and 4 women.

Of the 38 suicide cases recorded in our region, 29 involved people aged 41 and over, three involved people in the age group of 31-
40 years old, two in the age group of 23 – 30 years and two concerned young people aged up to 22 years.

The causes of suicide
As for the causes that pushed our fellow human beings to the awarded journey, the Police figures are troubling.

In 27 of the 38 cases, it appears that the cause that led them to commit suicide was unknown.
In 7 cases the reason was illness, in one case for emotional reasons, two for family reasons and one for financial reasons!

-In 2022, 22 suicide attempts and 15 suicides were recorded at the Achaia Police Directorate, of which 13 involved men and two women.
– At the Akarnania Police Department, 19 suicide attempts and 5 suicides were recorded, of which 4 involved men and one woman.

– At the Aetolia Police Directorate, 6 suicide attempts and 4 suicides with male victims were recorded.
– At the Ilia Police Department, 6 attempted suicides and 14 suicides were registered, of which 13 men and one woman.
