The official announcement that was issued talks about the ambitious plans of the Administration – which at the moment only it knows about – and talks about strategic planning of its future!
In detail, the announcement states:
The Rector and the Management Council of the University of Ioannina express their institutional regret for the decision of the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports, regarding the horizontal closure of Departments of the University of Ioannina. The Departments were requested by decisions of previous rectory authorities and meetings of the Senate, they were instituted later and were suspended. In particular, the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Polytechnic School operated administratively with a temporary Assembly. He also informs that there was no information and consultation regarding the issue from the Ministry.
The University of Ioannina claims a substantial strengthening of interdisciplinarity and internationalization in education and research. At the same time, it strengthens its extroversion and its interactions with the Region, Municipalities and social and productive bodies, puts the sciences at the service of society, contributes to the development of communities and, above all, elaborates prospects for substantial and sustainable development. In this context, it expects two-way support from all relevant bodies.
Regarding the Ministry’s announcement on the abolition of Departments, the Board of Administration informs that its goal from the outset is the well-planned and accordingly planned sustainable development of the University of Ioannina in all the cities of Epirus in which it is represented, setting as its goal the provision of such a level of education , which will attract a large number of the best students without discrimination.
On the basis of the above, the University of Ioannina strategically plans its future and invites the State and the agencies to a dialogue to strengthen its multi-level development as a strong regional University, constantly evolving, responding to the needs of society and the place, with whatever particularities of national interest.
