The concert is dedicated in honor to the great G. Grammatikakis, former President of the Kazantzakis Museum.

According to the press release:

Event dedicated to G. Grammatikakis. Throughout the year, the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum traveled inside and outside Crete, physically and digitally, successfully organizing a number of anniversary events and activities to celebrate its 40 years of operation.

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, these events culminate with the concert of the Symphony Orchestra of Youth of Crete (S.O.N.K.) of the Municipality of Heraklion under the direction of Miltos Logiadis.

In the past, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Crete has twice accompanied the cultural activities of the Museum by participating in the Festivals
Traveling: “England” and “Russia”. Music is an expression of creation that reaches the soul of each of us, conveying messages and uplifting
feelings that contribute to the formation of our thinking and character.

In this culminating anniversary event, 22 talented young musicians from Crete with their instruments, such as violin, viola, cello, double bass and harpsichord, with soloists Athena Vrettou and Evangelia Koutsodimou and Tassi Christogiannapoulos in song, will lead us from the Baroque and the “Four Seasons” by Antonio Vivaldi, to today and to Nikos Kazantzakis to remind us with the music of Manos Hatzidakis that “Captain Michalis” marked the path of the great Cretan writer in the universal literary firmament.

Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” is the composer’s best-known work, a masterpiece that takes us through the seasons. It consists of four concertos, each of which represents an era of time.

The music is vibrant and evocative full of programmatic elements that provide a rich and compelling musical narrative of the natural world.

On the other hand, the composition of Manos Hadjidakis on the play “Captain Michalis” by Kazantzakis functions as a musical embodiment of this historical and literary masterpiece. Through it, Hadjidakis skilfully captures the nuances of the Cretan struggle for independence. The music evolves alongside the narrative, using a rich tapestry of musical elements from poignant melodies that represent the characters’ personal journeys to powerful and compelling themes that resonate with the larger themes of heroism and sacrifice.

This event is dedicated to the memory of the great Giorgos Grammatikakis who left a few days ago to meet Nikos Kazantzakis in the neighborhoods of the angels.

This dedication is a minimal tribute to the memory of the former President of the Museum, Nikos Kazantzakis. Entry with free entry passes. It is necessary to reserve seats through the e-ticketing system of Ticket Services
