The new design debuted on October 18Green out of the Box” under the coordination of the youth organization GO Alive within the framework of the European Project EUTeensS4Green. This innovative initiative was designed to foster a passion for sustainability among P.E.’s secondary school students. Kozani and their teachers, based on the European sustainability skills framework “GreenComp”, encouraging them to take action. The “Green out of the Box” is going to make its appearance in 10 schools in P.E. of Kozani, offering a unique, two-week environmental trip to each school unit.
The beginning was made with the students of the 3rd grade of the 6th Gymnasium of Kozani, who completed with great enthusiasm and success the first “green” challenge of creating a Postcard from recycled paper (which they recycled themselves) in which they planted flower seeds. Then they gave the baton and the next “green challenge” to the students of the 3rd grade of the 3rd Gymnasium of Kozani on November 2nd, challenging them to create notice boards and frames from . . . worn clothes and fabrics!
During the first action of the project, 2 separate training sessions through non-formal learning were held for students and teachers by the project team GO Alive. More specifically, there was a presentation of the project and its goals, as well as an introduction to the concept of “green challenges” hidden in the box for students and teachers. The students then participated in the “Mission Impossible” game where they were divided into groups, with each group taking on a variety of tasks related to environmental challenges while the teachers were introduced to the “GreenComp“. Educators learned how “Green Comp” will be incorporated into the project over the coming months, ensuring a long-lasting impact on students’ sustainability education.
To make the project more tangible, GO Alive volunteers built a “green” box that includes information about the challenge it brings to each school. In a period of two weeks, the students are asked to find a solution to the current “green” challenge, applying the knowledge and skills acquired during the training session, and at the same time create a new “green” challenge to be assigned to the next school.
Meanwhile, GO Alive supports teachers and students by providing guidance and training sessions through “GreenComp” during each exciting two-week challenge, promoting sustainability education and lifelong learning, thus ensuring a lasting impact on future generations that will lead to sustainable societies.
Stay tuned for updates on the project «Green Out of the Box”, as the box continues to travel us inspiring the youth of Kozani to think “out of the box” for a greener and more sustainable future!
