Police handcuffed a couple in Toumpa, in Thessaloniki, yesterday as it was found that they were selling oil of dubious quality and authenticity.
This is a pair of citizens aged 39 and 33 (male and female respectively) against whom a case file was filed for violation of the legislation regarding “Rules for regulating the purchase of products and the provision of services and other provisions” and the legislation regarding “Administrative measures, procedures and sanctions in the implementation of EU and national legislation in the fields of food, animal feed and animal health and protection and other provisions of the competence of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food”.
The arrested were spotted selling the oil in close proximity to the public market of Cleanthos, in Thessaloniki.
During the police search carried out, 12 containers, metal and plastic, containing oil with a capacity of 5 liters, 1 pad with handwritten notes used for orders and 22 Post-it notes with their contact details were found and confiscated in order to promote the their products.
The Chemical Service will carry out a laboratory examination
At the request of the service in charge, a crew of the EFET came and took samples from the confiscated items, which they will send to the Chemical Service for further laboratory examination.
The arrest was made by police officers of the Operational Tactic and Action Department of the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate.
They were released by the prosecutor
Later, the couple were taken to the public prosecutor, but were released on his orders.
The prosecutor requested a preliminary examination in order to complete the laboratory tests on the quality of the oils and then to decide on their criminal treatment.
