The meeting of the municipal council of Larisa on Thursday night was an episodic one with the object of approving relief measures for those affected by the recent floods.

With dozens of citizens in the room, and a banner that read “fight until the final victory” setting the mood, the discussion fatally got out of hand between municipal officials, opposition councilors and citizens, mainly about the non-compensation of of all those affected, against the background of the issue of basements (the state does not compensate for damage caused to basements because it does not concern the main residence. The phenomenon is mostly found in the Worker’s Residences of Giannoulis), but also the problematic operation of biological cleaning . A problem that has brought to a standstill many citizens who cannot proceed with emptying the cesspools since the companies have nowhere to deposit the waste water afterwards.

An unfortunate moment of the meeting was the “shit” of the president of the Municipal Council, Mr. Dimitris Tahou, during the tension.

In the end, the body unanimously approved the relief measures that had been announced by the outgoing Municipal Authority which, among other things, include the exemption of reimbursable fees, municipal tax and Real Estate Tax for the properties that cannot be inhabited due to the flood, as well as exemptions of school fees and schools for a series of legal entities such as nurseries, KDAP and the Ballet School.

The release of the rent for the fields remains pending because legislative regulation is required.
