After a good performance, Women’s National Team lost in Vigevano to the strong Italy with 76-67, for the 1the competition of qualifiers of Eurobasket 2025. We remind you that Greece, as the organizer, has gone directly to the final phase, but it is also in the qualifiers, in a group together with the other three hosts. On Sunday, the national team will welcome the Czech Republic in Chalkida (17.00).
The beginning of the match was bad for our National Team, which quickly found itself behind with a double-digit difference (11-1). After three and a half minutes, Stamolambrou scored the first basket. The Italians went 21-5 in the 7thThe minute, with the first quarter ending at 24-10.
Our internationals reacted in the second period. The athletes of Prekas improved their performance and reduced to five (29-24) with an individual 5-14. With a basket by Christinaki, the National team came within a breathing distance (33-31), to end the half 39-31 with a 6-0 by Italy. Spanou had 11 points for the Greek team that had a problem with rebounds (23-14 in favor of the Italians).
The national team also had a bad start in the second half, falling behind 49-34. She was down to 49-38 and having regained her composure, she went to 49-43. The Italians were disorganized and Spanou made it 49-46 with a three-pointer. Kumbaz broke Greece’s streak (12-0). Score at 30′ 53-48.
Entering the final stretch, Italy had an explosive start to the fourth quarter, going up 64-51. Prekas immediately timed out. The National team dropped the difference to 67-59. But he couldn’t do it anymore and the home team won 76-67.
