The exceptional transfers of Thessalian students to the University of Thessaly -after the floods in the plain-, as well as the establishment of a Standard High School and High School in Larissa, were at the center of the meeting held by Member of Parliament for Larissa of New Democracy, Mr. Maximos Charakopoulos by Minister of Education Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis. In fact, during the meeting there was also communication with director of Regional Education of Thessaly, Mrs. Vassiliki Ziaka.
The Thessalonian politician made the following statement after the meeting:
“I had the opportunity to meet my friend Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who, during his previous term, distinguished himself for his innovative thinking and his determination to promote critical reforms for the benefit of society. I am sure that he will develop these characteristics in the critical field of education, which is still plagued by pathogens.
I asked the minister two of the most important issues that concern Thessaly in the education sector. One concerns the Thessalian students and the possibility of exceptionally transferring them to the respective departments of the University of Thessaly, due to the disastrous consequences of the recent floods. I explained to Mr. Minister – as I had also noted through the parliamentary channel by filing the relevant Report – that such a decision, while it does not have any financial cost, can provide substantial financial and psychological relief to the students’ families, who have been affected by the floods.
The second issue is the incomprehensible long-term postponement of the establishment finally(!) of a Model school in Larissa, for which there was also a personal commitment of of Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in February, during the presentation of our government program for Thessaly. Mr. Pierrakakis, himself a devotee of excellence, fully understands the dire need for the capital of Thessaly, Larissa, to acquire a model school that will act as a cell for upgrading education and a driver of social mobility.
I am sure that for both requests I have found listening ears in my friend minister and I expect that we will soon have concrete announcements”.
