A protest gathering at the Venizelos Statue and a march to YMATH were held today by pensioners of Thessalonikiin the context of the mobilizations that will culminate with the nationwide descent of pensioners in Athens on November 24.
Observing a minute’s silence in memory of Diamantis Mavrodoglou, the retirees said goodbye to the pioneer fighter, trade unionist, for many years president of the Federation of Builders and later of the Federation of Pensioners of the IKA.
From the gathering stage o Vasilis Revas, president of the IKA Thessaloniki Pensioners Association, expressed the pensioners’ condemnation of Israel’s invasion of the Gaza Strip and support for the struggle of the Palestinian people for a free homeland, for an independent Palestinian state. At the same time, he expressed solidarity with the people of Israel who are suffering the consequences of their governments’ policies. “We know well,” he said, “that those who ultimately pay with their blood the price of wars are the people themselves.”
The gathering was also greeted by Theodoulos Tapanidisvice-president of the Panhellenic Federation of Civilian Pensioners and the Costas Stefanopoulospresident of the OAEE Pensioners Association of Thessaloniki.
