The temperature will show a significant drop today Thursday, according to the latest forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens.
From Friday, several emergency reports of worsening weather are expected, according to the meteorologist of MEGA, Yiannis Kallianos.
So two consecutive bad weather are coming in a large part of the country, says Mr. Kallianos.
“One will start on Friday from Western Greece and will expand on Saturday to the rest of the country. On Sunday there will be an improvement, which will be followed on Monday by more bad weather. Their characteristics will be the rains, strong storms but also the strengthened south winds that will reach 8-9 Beaufort. The temperature will remain at the same levels, no significant change is expected.”
We will have intense storms in the western part of the country and mainly in the Ionian Islands, according to Mr. Kallianos, as the map below shows.
The weather today
Its maximum values are not expected to exceed 17-19 °C in the northern continents and in the North Aegean, 20-22 °C in the rest of the continents (with the exception of the southern Peloponnese where it will reach 24-25 °C in places) , 19-21 °C in the Ionian and 22-24 °C in the islands of the Central and South Aegean and in Crete.
In Sterea, Evia, Thessaly, eastern and in places central Macedonia, Thrace and the islands of the north-eastern Aegean, increased clouds are forecast with local rains and isolated storms and rapid improvement.
In the rest of the areas few clouds temporarily increased with the possibility of weak local rains.
Winds will blow to the south from west directions 3 to 5 Beaufort and to the north from north directions 3 to 5 and temporarily until midday hours on the seas locally up to 6 Beaufort.
As shown in the map below, in parts of Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Eastern Sterea and Eastern Peloponnese the drop in temperature is expected to exceed 8 °C.
Friday
From midnight on Friday and towards the early morning hours of Saturday, the weather will worsen a lot, reports Yiannis Kallianos.
In the western mainland initially, with showers, rains and strong storms, while in the night to dawn on Saturday we will have very strong phenomena in the western Peloponnese, Epirus, Iptanis, while in Attica we expect rains but not so strong.
In the rest of the country, as the meteo reports, we will have thin clouds at intervals thicker with the possibility of local rains in the Cyclades in the evening hours.
Visibility will be locally limited in the morning and evening hours.
Winds will blow to the west from southerly directions 5 to 6 locally in the northern Ionian to 7 Beaufort with weakening from the afternoon. In the east initially from northerly directions 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually from the west southerly winds 4 to 6 Beaufort will prevail.
It should be noted that the meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust to the south. The temperature will drop slightly in the north.
Saturday
In the west, the central, the north, and the islands of the northeast Aegean clouds with local rain and sporadic storms possibly locally strong in the west and north. The phenomena in the evening in the west will weaken. In the rest of the areas, clouds temporarily increased with sporadic rains and from midday isolated storms mainly in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust to the south.
The winds will blow south southwest 5 to 7, in the northeast Aegean possibly temporary locally 8 Beaufort. From the afternoon in the west westerlies 4 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly mainly in the east.
Sunday
In the eastern and southern island country clouds with local rain and sporadic storms and gradual weakening. In the rest of the areas, sparse clouds temporarily thicker with the possibility of weak local rains in the west. From the afternoon in the west the phenomena will intensify and sporadic storms will occur.
Winds will blow from the west at 3 to 5 Beaufort. Gradually in the west they will turn to south directions 4 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly in the west and north.
Monday
Unstable weather, cloudy at times in most parts of the country with local rains and isolated thunderstorms. The effects from the afternoon will be limited to the eastern country where they will intensify in the evening.
Winds will blow in the west, central and south-west directions 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the rest of the areas from northern directions 3 to 4 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change appreciably.
