The facilities for the exploitation of the Polichnitos geothermal field were also handed over to the Municipality of Western Lesvos, by the Decentralized Administration of the Aegean, after the signing of the lease contract.
On November 2, a three-member committee, established by the decision of the Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of the Aegean, together with the Deputy Mayor of Operational Planning Asanoula Gianni Kokkinelli, conducted an autopsy in the area where the geothermal field is located and investigated the existence and condition of its existing exploitation facilities.
In particular, three production wells were delivered, of which only one is operational. None of IGME’s 19 exploratory boreholes exist anymore. At the same time as the handover of the facilities, various issues regarding the exploitation of the geothermal field were discussed, with the geologist of EAGME (formerly IGME) transferring part of his many years of experience in it.
During the discussion, Deputy Mayor Asanoula Gianni Kokkinelli referred to the need to utilize all the knowledge accumulated from previous research and production work, in order to avoid past mistakes.
