A 39-year-old Egyptian man who has been living and working in Chania for the last ten years has been the focus of an investigation by the Anti-Terrorism Department.
The posts on Facebook in favor of Hamas and the hate sermons against the West on the occasion of the war in Gaza were what caused the mobilization of the Greek Authorities.
Specifically, according to information, the 39-year-old supported through his profiles on social networks the action of the Al-Qassam Brigades, which are an armed organization that supports the fight of Hamas against Israel.
At the same time, the 39-year-old was calling Muslims to armed Jihad.
In addition, the man is an imam in an informal mosque and taught the Muslims who gathered as he had done religious studies.
Lately he had stopped teaching because he probably realized that there were investigations by the authorities against him.
He also proceeded to verbally preach hate in the mosque but he is not considered to be extreme and radical.
It is recalled that the Al-Qassam Brigades organization was founded in 1992, with its name coming from the Syrian preacher Ezzedine Al-Qassam, who at the beginning of the 20th century called for armed resistance against the “new crusaders” of colonialism and in 1935 was killed in exchange of fire with British police.
