A statement on the Aegean case was made by PASOK – Movement for Change Member of Parliament for Kozani and Head of KTE Finances, Paris Koukoulopoulos, in the Parliament, at the start of today’s meeting of the State Accounts and General Balance Sheet Committee. In particular, he underlined the following:
“Precisely because we are going to talk about the 2021 Report and Balance Sheet, I would like to refer to the unprecedented event that happened on Friday and concerns the financial year 2021. At that time, state aid was given to the airline company Aegean in the amount of 120 million euros, and at the same time, private shareholders with 60 million in the increase of the Company’s share capital, in order to be supported by the drop in traffic, and thus in the share, due to the pandemic at that time.
Today, the private participation of 60 million is valued at 213 million and the State, exercising the right of option prematurely and completely inexplicably, is led to a loss of about 35 million.
The Minister of Finance must immediately take back the Letter by which he closes this case, because politically he cannot withstand any criticism, economically he does not stand – if the budget really depends on 85 million euros, that is another matter, let him tell us Mr. Minister – but above all, he does not stand morally. It is not ours, nor the Government’s, the taxpayers’ money to manage it in such a way.
A little later, if the State had exercised its right, it would have achieved a full recovery of the 120 million euros, because Aegean’s stock is logically rising due to the development of air traffic and tourism”.
