In an atmosphere of tension, the discussion in the 6th Criminal Department of the Supreme Court was finally postponed until January 2024 for the annulment of the decision to recognize a leniency for the special guard and convicted for the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, Epaminondas Korkoneas.
The tones rose in the courtroom between the advocates of the family of Alexandros Grigoropoulos and the president of the court, with the result that in the end the judicial officer proceeded to declaration of abstinence for reasons of decencybecause of what was heard against her, while the prosecutor suggested “compulsorily postponing the debate” for the mitigation of Epaminondas Korkoneas.
THE Nikos Constantopoulos, the lawyer of the mother of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, argued that this is a “methodology of the outcome of the trial in favor of the accused. Another 2 months without prison for the man convicted of first-degree murder”, concluding that what is happening is unacceptable.
Earlier, the proceedings before the Supreme Court were marked by continuous interruptions, due to the request of the advocates of the Grigoropoulos family to appear in the debate.
The annoyance on the part of the family of Alexandros Grigoropoulos was caused on the one hand by the fact that the president did not wait for his mother and Zoe Konstantopoulou to start the debate and on the other hand by her constant interventions when the defense attorneys for the prosecution developed their positions.
“What is clear is that justice has played with the family,” stressed Ms. Konstantopoulou, adding: “Your behavior is extremely discriminatory and you are playing with the fact that the family wants the process to be completed. This mother, who every time gathers her strength to appear before the representatives of justice, is waiting for the irrevocable decision.”
For his part, Nikos Konstantopoulos pointed out that “the sober and impartial judge listens, he does not interrupt”.
The court suspended the proceedings and then the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, V. Papadas, proceeded with his presentation and referred to the request for representation in support of the charge, proposing its rejection.
This resulted in Zoe Konstantopoulou denouncing “procedural manipulation” and “methods of attempted silencing”.
Finally, the discussion of the case postponed to January 2024.
