The testimonies of the people who lived through the horrors of the war in Gaza are shocking. “I’ve seen babies cut in half”, “if they continue at the same pace, no one will be left alive in Gaza”, say Greeks of Palestinian origin, who managed to return to Greece alive.
Alexander Fayyad described to ERT that he did not expect to come out alive from the war situation, while noting that “at any moment you can lose your life, there is no place to hide. They have cut off electricity, water, fuel. There are no refrigerators to put the dead.”

“In the morning we brush our teeth with salty, sea water.” The words of Atef Rayad, also a repatriated Greek from Palestine, are shocking. “A baby, about 2 years old, was crying all night” from hunger and luckily “we found a piece of dry bread, put it in water to soften it and gave it to him.”
Atef tried to find refuge in the Greek Orthodox church of Agios Porphyrios in Gaza, but as he says “luckily I didn’t manage to go because after one day they hit the church”.
