Mild or moderate drought conditions were experienced in October 2023 by 38% of the total area in Greece, according to the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr. Central and eastern Macedonia and especially Thrace are experiencing drought conditions, which are characterized as “moderate”.
Mild drought conditions also occur in areas of central and eastern Peloponnese, eastern Sterea (including Attica), central and southern Evia, as well as some Aegean islands. Also, slightly drier conditions were observed in some areas of central and western Macedonia.
It is noted that this year’s October was the warmest of the last 15 years in Greece, as the average value of maximum daily temperatures fluctuated at extremely high levels almost throughout the country, compared to the average of the period 2010-2019.
