The Regional Deputy Governor of Cyclades, Mr. Giorgos Leontaritis, was visited yesterday, Monday, November 6, 2023, by the Secretary General of the Aegean and Islands Policy, Mr. Manolis Koutoulakis.
At the beginning of the thorough discussion that followed, Mr. Koutoulakis underlined the very good cooperation that exists between the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy and the South Aegean Region over the years, thanking Mr. Leontaritis in particular.
During the meeting, reference was made to the two major co-organizations carried out by the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Islands Policy and the South Aegean Region, and more specifically to the Aegean Athletics Games that were held with great success on the two days of September 30 to October 1 in Milos as well as in the very successful 34th Meeting of Aegean Amateur Troupes held in Syros from October 26 to November 5.
Afterwards, there was a broad discussion on the infrastructure projects and on the planning of future actions that the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Islands Policy and the South Aegean Region can jointly carry out, focusing the planning mainly on the small islands of the Region.
Particular emphasis was placed by Mr. Leontaritis on the need for faster payment of the transport equivalent, as well as on the redesign of some intercommunication routes.
At this point, Mr. Leontaritis proposed the convening of a meeting, in which the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Islands Policy, the South Aegean Region and the Mayors of the islands will participate in order to inform the new municipal authorities about the financial tools they can use at all levels, but also to plan an integrated strategic policy for the next five years.
In a statement made at the end of the meeting, Mr. Deputy Governor said:
“The stay of Mr. Koutoulakis at the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy was very good news for us islanders.
The excellent relations that have developed between the General Secretariat, the Region and the Municipalities guarantee positive results for our islands.”
