THE Society of Cretan Historical Studies she invites you Thursday, November 9, 2023time 19:00 p.m. in the Giannis Percelakis Amphitheater of the Historical Museum of Crete (27 Sofoklis Venizelou Ave., Heraklion) at the presentation of his book Antoni Chatzikyriakou under the title Land island. The Mediterranean and Cyprus in the Ottoman Era of Revolutions (editions Mosaics, “Historical series: Palimpsest | 5”, March 2023).
This is an extremely interesting and original approach to the Ottoman period of the large Mediterranean island, which focuses on the era of “the consecutive crises that the island experienced during the period 1764-1840”, in relation to the wider revolutionary moment in the Mediterranean and the world scale. In addition, however, this work by Antonis Chatzikyriakos, as Antonis Anastasopoulos points out, “is not a book that concerns only those interested in the history of Cyprus, as the conceptual axes of Mediterraneanness, insularity, territoriality… and the whole methodological approach of the author, make it a reading that prompts the reader to think and reflect on broader historical and historiographical issues”.
The book will be discussed by:
Eleftheria ZeiAssociate Professor of Modern History at the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Crete.
Antonis AnastasopoulosAssociate Professor of Ottoman History at the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Crete
and author.
