Mitsotakis in Politico: Greece will participate in a safe humanitarian sea corridor in Gaza

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking to Politico, said he would discuss all options for humanitarian aid to Gaza at the Paris Summit, leaving open the possibility of participating in a maritime humanitarian aid corridor to Gaza.

This could happen if the ships could operate under “full protection”, Mr Mitsotakis noted.

Specifically, he said he would discuss all available humanitarian aid options with French President Emmanuel Macron and Arab leaders on Thursday in Paris. Greece would be able to participate in a sea corridor to aid aid shipments to Gaza, he added.

“Because of our geography, if we can deliver humanitarian aid in an organized manner and ensure that that aid reaches those who really need it the most, we will be happy to do that,” he added.

The advantage of a runway, he explained, is that you can send much more humanitarian aid by ship than by truck.

“So if the logistics work out and if it’s really convenient to do that, instead of flying aid in and then putting it in trucks, if that’s something that’s feasible and can be done with the utmost safety, I would be very happy to participate in such an initiative” concluded Mr. Mitsotakis.
