The two-day Chess Seminar in Secondary Education was successfully completed

The two-day event on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November 2023 at 7 was successfully completed^The Primary School of Ptolemaida, the two-day event organized in the framework of the cooperation of the Regional Directorate of Education of Western Macedonia and the Union of Chess Associations of Central-Western Macedonia, with the theme “Chess at school”.

The aim of the seminar was for Chess to be an additional learning tool for Kindergarten and Primary School students.

In the first part (theoretical), a thorough reference was made to the history of the sport, to the first introduction of chess to schools with the “Melina Program”, as well as to the multiple benefits it offers to mental development, learning ability, memory and socialization of children. of children by the presenters: Stathis Theophylactidis, Vangelis Vidalis, Aris Paterakis and Costas Giuvantsioudi.

In the 2nd part of the seminar (practical) the participants had the opportunity to engage in playful activities to get to know chess: position of pieces, moves, regulations and to share the wealth of experience and knowledge provided by the lecturers!

Due to the experiential nature of the seminar, the participation had a limited number of selected teachers. The participants attended the two-day seminar outside their schedule and with great interest, which proves their love for the children of their schools.

The opening of the two-day conference was welcomed by the Regional Director of Western Macedonia, Mrs. Despina Papadopoulou and the Deputy Mayor of Education, Mrs. Anastasia Prapa.

A big “Thank you” to the volunteer trainers: Vangelis Vidalis, Costas Giovantsioudi, Aris Paterakis and Stathis Theophylactidis who gave the opportunity to all participants to get to know the intellectual game of chess, which has fascinated people all over the world for over 1,500 years.
