In continuation of the discussions on the anti-flood project of Morea in Nedonta and the reactions of municipal factions for the silence of Kalamata’s agencies regarding such an important intervention (s.a. a topic highlighted by “Θ” in last Wednesday’s paper), there were positive developments.

According to information, civil society “woke up” from its slumber and asked to discuss and be informed about the project by the Municipal Authority. Thus, next week the Chamber of Messinia, the Kalamata Chamber of Commerce and the OEVES will learn the details of the planned intervention and their positions are expected accordingly.

Of course, this is an initiative of the agencies that comes with a significant delay, but the counter-argument claims that there was never an official invitation for consultation on the matter.

In any case, it should be pointed out that dozens of businesses are active on Nedontos and Artemis streets and their smooth operation will be affected in one way or another by the implementation of the project, as well as the need to protect Kalamata from possible extreme weather events .

Finally, let us point out that decisions should not be taken by technocrats (?) in the absence of citizens. Because the citizen or the body that behaves in this way cannot be characterized as an active citizen, since he does not offer anything special to the city.
