As every year, this year too the transfer of the image of St. George from Ano to Kato Doliana took place. The religious tradition of the transfer of the image, as supported by the oldest in age, dates back close to a century, which may even exceed it.
Its transfer took place on the first Sunday of November, as is still the case today.
Ano Doliana was and still is the summer residence and the Kato the winter residence of the Dolianites. On their annual move (change of residence) they took the icon of St. George with them. So, in commemoration of this tradition, the residents carry the image of the Saint, from Ano to Kato on foot, a route lasting seven hours and a total distance of 24km.
In the middle of the trek, a part of the route takes place through paths, where the faithful had the opportunity to admire the autumn colors of nature.
This year, as in previous years, the procession departed from I.N. Agios Georgios of the upper Doliani and was made by road through Dragouni, Korites, Laloudi, Runeika and Prosilia and ended up in I.N. Agios Nikolaos of lower Doliani.
At the entrance of the village, the icon was awaited by the Philharmonic who accompanied it to the church. A large number of believers were once again this year in the transfer of the image of Saint George, reminding us of our tradition, values and customs that must remain unchanged over the years.
