The coastal cycle path of Patras is the project that is proving to be the most problematic of those that the municipal authority has begun to implement. This is a common finding.

Even today, the project, which has reached its final stage of completion, creates questions for the citizens and certainly concerns about its continuation, which is none other than the network of cycle paths that are to proceed in the context of the regeneration of the historic center.

Friends of the bike and people of the Cycling Club of Patras raise the need to redefine the design of the network of cycle paths in the city center, emphasizing at the same time that it is necessary to make any corrective changes to the coastal cycle path.

As far as the network of cycle paths in the historic center is concerned, according to their reasoning, it is necessary to make a separation between the walking paths and the cycle paths and to define in the network at least two more vertical roads that connect to the promenade.

Until now, the only vertical cycle path that exists in the regeneration plan is Kanari, as Trion Navarchon, Agios Nikolaou and Gerokostopoulou are essentially pedestrian streets.

The plan for the creation of cycle paths in Sissini and Alexandrou Ypsilantou has a basis in the context of the connection of the Upper and Lower towns. As far as the coastal bike path is concerned, few things can now be fixed.

According to cyclists, the curb that has been put in to protect bikes from cars is an issue, while there are places that are quite dangerous. The only solution to save it from its initially bad design is to adapt it to the plan of the redevelopment of the coastal zone, depending of course on what is to be done there.
