The EMY is expected to issue an emergency bulletin for worsening weather tomorrow, Thursday, as announced by the Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, Vassilis Kikilias, speaking to Mega.
The Civil Protection is on high alert for the occurrence of intense phenomena next Saturday.
“Tomorrow at 1 p.m. the EMY will issue an emergency bulletin of worsening weather” said Mr. Kikilias. “I have requested a meeting of all relevant bodies. We will assess what will happen in Western Greece and where these phenomena will reach,” he added.
“We have floods in Milan and Dubai. It is clear that the climate crisis is here”
“Civil Protection has a responsibility and from this bill (which concerns the measures that must be taken before the occurrence of crises) it takes it, because it can see where and if anti-flood projects are being carried out. The structure of responsibilities will be simplified in the new bill so that there are no delays. There are bad techniques, dirty streams and now we will come to try to solve all these problems” stressed Vassilis Kikilias.
What is bad weather “P”
The scene will begin to change gradually from today, Wednesday, November 1, and summer will give way – albeit belatedly – to autumn.
From tomorrow, Thursday, western Greece, the northern mainland and the northeastern Aegean will be affected, forming the letter “P” on the map.
The effects will weaken on Friday, but the weekend will see rain and localized thunderstorms almost across the country.
Kallianos: I’m worried about Saturday’s weather
Yiannis Kallianos warns of the risk of flooding on Saturday, stressing that “the most intense phenomena will occur mainly in the west, in the north and on the islands of the eastern Aegean, while it is expected to rain in most areas of Greece”.
In particular, in his post on Facebook he writes: “I have to admit that I am worried about the weather next Saturday. The instability indicators for this day are very high, which means that storms in places will be so strong that they will likely lead to flooding.
It will not rain everywhere with the same intensity. For example, Attica will be one of the regions that will receive less water than other regions of the country.
The most intense phenomena will occur mainly in the west, in the north and on the islands of the eastern Aegean, while it is expected to rain in most areas of Greece. Also the winds (southerlies) will reach 8 Beaufort in the seas (mainly in the Aegean). This bad weather will last 24 hours”.
The meteorologist also lists the precipitation maps. The purple and red colors show the areas that will be affected.
