Executive of the Sub-Directorate of Technical Projects of the Metropolitan Unit Thessaloniki in the Region of Central Macedonia he was sentenced to 5 months imprisonmentwith a three-year suspension, as he was found guilty of woman injured by falling tree branch, on Papanikolaou Avenue, in Pefka. Examining the case in second instance, the Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki ruled against him guilty of negligent bodily harm from a guilty party, reducing the sentence in relation to the court of first instance by 2 months, as reported by APE-MPE.
According to the case file, the incident occurred on July 6, 2019, when the 57-year-old (today) patient was riding a two-wheeled motorcycle driven by her husband. As the two-wheeler was moving in the direction of Asvestochori towards Thessaloniki, at the height of the OASTH “Pareklisi” stop, a dry tree branch was cut off, falling on the woman’s head, injuring her and causing her to suffer Traumatic Brain Injury as well as – among others – frontal bone fracture.
The case took the path of Justice after a petition submitted by the 57-year-old. The accused became a senior employee of the Sub-Directorate of Technical Works of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki (the Directorate of Technical Works), whose duties, according to the indictment, include -among others- the responsibility of cutting grass, bushes and fake vegetation along the roads belonging to within the competence of the specific Directorate in order to ensure the visibility and safe use of the road arteries.
In his statement, the defendant renounced his criminal responsibilities, stating – among other things – that his Service receives the police reports and is informed of any problems identified by the Fire Department’s autopsies. For the disputed point, however, he had no information about any problems, not even from the Forestry Departmentwhich – according to him – he should have informed as it was a forest area.
