The management of the forest ecosystems of the region and the utilization of the loggers of the Forestry Cooperatives in Rodopi in preventing and dealing with emergency situations due to climate change, occupied a meeting of the Deputy Regional Governor of Rodopi Nikos Tsalikidis with the Secretary General of Forests Minister of State Efstathios Stathopoulos, in Athens.

The Deputy Governor Mr. Tsalikidis was accompanied by a representative of the six Forestry Labor Cooperatives, Kerasia B’, Kardamos, Haradras, Kampos, Kechros and Kardamos B’, operating in the Rhodope Regional Unit.

DA.SE are active in forestry operations. Through their action, they contribute significantly to the management of forest resources, their preservation and protection while at the same time supporting the economy of the mountain population.

The contribution of the local Forestry Cooperatives, with logging operations for the creation of containment zones, was particularly important in dealing with the fires that hit the Rhodopi last August.

With the General Secretary of Forests and the participation of a representative of the Forestry Cooperatives of the Rhodopes, we had a constructive meeting on the management of forest ecosystems in our region. In addition to the demarcation, reforestation, anti-corrosion and anti-flooding projects, we raised the issue of the utilization of DASE and the improvement of our forests.

In view of the proposal to implement a new integrated forest management model promoted by the Ministry of the Interior with the utilization of cooperatives, we highlighted their important role in forest protection and the management of our forest wealth. In addition, we focused on issues that concern the logging industry and changes that will allow DA.SEs to modernize and upgrade their operation”, pointed out the Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Tsalikidis.
