The event will take place, as is known, on Thursday, November 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Athens Concert Hallin the “Yiannis Marinos” room – formerly “Polychoros” of the “Friends of Music” Association, in the context of the events for the 100th anniversary of the death of the leading writer Konstantinos (Dinou) Theotokis organized by the Society of Corfu Studies.

Set to music by Constantinos Theotokis’ sonnets about love, society and war, the Corfu-born baritone mainly interprets – in a world-first performance Panagiotis Pratsos, of the Vienna State Opera. The composers have done the music Spyros Mavropoulos, Alkis Baltasand Spyros Prosoparis. A total of 20 artists are participating. The orchestra is conducted by the conductor Christos Kolovos. The soprano is also a soloist Rosa Poulimenou, the pianist BelioMoraitou-Kavalieratou and the actress Christina Thymi.

The event will start at 20:00 exactly (start of public entrance to the hall 19:00) with his work Beethoven“Mignon” in his poetry translated by Theotokos Goethite, in response to the express wish of Constantinos Theotokis, formulated in 1915, “to be sung to the music of Beethoven”.

The president of the Society of Corfu StudiesPericles Pagratis will follow, with a few words about the event, inviting to the stage the emeritus professor of Modern Greek Philology of the EKPAEriStavropoulouwhich with text titled “”Sing, sing”, music and poetry in the work of Konstantinos Theotokis” will signal the performance of the evening’s first sonnet. This is sonnet 33, out of the author’s 70 (composed by Sp. Prosoparis, first verse: “Like my soul is hopelessly dwindling…”).

The event will continue with the mileage “Konstantinos Theotokis”by the same composer, dedicated to the Philharmonic of the village of Theotokis, the Karoussadon Philharmonic of Corfu (transcription for a special musical ensemble).

It will be followed by the Heptanisian melody associated with film and television adaptations of works of the Virgin Mary “I want to let…”in a transcription of Sp. Prosopari for baritone and twelve-piece ensemble.

The sequel belongs to three strong compositions of his Sp. Mavropoulou:

Sonnet 22 (“So many times your shoulder like a reed…”) will be followed by sonnet 11 («By Mars the Antara apsy drolapi…”).

Dedicated to Constantine Theotokos, the “Corfu Suite”for wind ensemble, is his third work.

Followed by “Supplication” (Sp. Prosoparis) in a transcription for wind instruments combined with a selection by him of prose verses of Theotokos for the historic Porta Riala gate of Corfu, which, as Konstantinos Theotokis wrote, “cast in 1893″.

Then, three of his works raise the tone Alki Balta, written also for the historical event – concert.

The first: “Tribute to Konstantinos Theotokis». Melodies known in Corfu are combined with the reading of selected characteristic passages from the author’s well-known short stories-novels.

The second and third are two of his most famous sonnets. Sonnet 48: “Sorrows, passions, sins…“, Sonnet 32: “Blood paints the mother earth river…”

With a section from another sonnet, to the music of Sp. Prosoparis, the musical evening will conclude for the one century since the death of the immortal Dinos Theotokis. Sonnet 45: “Her holy right arose to receive…”

The orchestra is made up of Corfu musicians: Spyros Arkoudis (trumpet), Isidore Thymis (crust), Christos Kaloudis (horn), Giannis Kritikos (clarinet), Theodoros Mavrommatis (flute), Petros Mavrommatis (oboe), Alekos Mavropoulos (trumpet), Spyros Bakos (horn), Sakis Myronis (tuba), Dimitris Dakovanos (bassoon), Ilias Skordilis (clarinet), Spyros Farougias (trombone).
