Metro and suburban train stations closed on Wednesday 1/11

--

The Heraklion stations of the Metro line 1 (ISAP) and the Suburban line will be closed on Wednesday, November 1 from 2:00 p.m. by order of the Police.

The Metro and Suburban trains will pass through the stations without stopping and will reopen by order of EL.AS.

Prohibition of gatherings on Wednesday 1/11 in Attica

The Police announced a ban on all public gatherings throughout Attica on Wednesday, November 1st. It is the day that Golden Dawn is planning a gathering with the participation of far-right and neo-Nazi organizations from all over Europe, on the occasion of the murder of two members of the organization outside its offices in Neo Heraklion 10 years ago.

At the same time, on the same day, groups and collectives from the anti-authoritarian space are planning anti-gatherings.

Faced with the risk of causing incidents, the Police decided to ban all gatherings that day. In fact, approximately 3,500 police officers will be mobilized for measures of order, referring to a plan by ELAS that will remind of mobilizations for the anniversary of the Polytechnic on November 17th.

In detail, the announcement of EL.AS. states the following:

“It is announced that by Decision of the General Police Director of Attica, any public outdoor gathering is prohibited on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the fatal wounding of two members of Golden Dawn, from 06:00 on 1-11-2023 until 06:00 ‘ of 2-11-2023, in the Prefecture of Attica (excluding the Argosaronic Islands).

The above prohibition is imposed as there is a serious risk to public safety, due to the possible commission of serious crimes, especially against life, bodily integrity and property, from holding meetings and “counter-meetings” by groups of opposing positions.

In addition, there is a serious threat of disruption of socio-economic life, both in the areas where gatherings have been announced, and in the rest of the Attica Prefecture, where it is probable that similar gatherings will be held, as well as the simultaneous presence in a climate of polarization of concentrated groups”.

In the relevant decision of the General Police Director of Attica posted in Diaygeia, the following are mentioned:

“We decide to ban public outdoor gatherings related to the issue from 06:00 on 01/11/2023 until 06:00 on 02/11/2023 in the area of the Prefecture of Attica (except Argosaronic Islands), because from their conduct, given the polarization between the two (2) spaces (nationalist and anarchist/anti-authoritarian), a) there is a serious threat to public safety due to the possible commission of serious crimes, especially against life, bodily integrity and property and b) there is a serious threat of disruption of socio-economic life both in the area of the gatherings and in the rest of the region of the Prefecture of Attica, where their simultaneous presence or the realization of similar gatherings is likely.”
