(…) He doesn’t have many words here. A little is good. (…)
The song says three words and thousands of things speak to your soul.

F. Kontoglou

How do you reformulate the tradition while keeping the need, the desire and the faith? At a time when morals and stereotypes are changing, we want to create an inclusive reformulation of poems, a post tradition, a post tradition, a remix that will free young people from old social norms and enable them to incorporate contemporary concerns and images, without deviating from the essence of each poem.

An artistic workshop for middle school and high school children that focuses on the discovery and reformulation of tradition, with the aim of giving teenagers an experiential understanding of the collective creation of vernacular poetry and at the same time giving them the opportunity for a contemporary group creation of poems that will reflect their concerns. The oral literature of our vernacular tradition was collective and expressed community consciousness, it was spontaneous and revealed hidden sides of society.

More specifically: Games, interactive frameworks and audio-visual conditions will help the participants to discover aspects of vernacular poetry, while in the end we want them to become creators themselves. The reformulation of poems through different mental filters is the central axis. A remaster of folk songs where participation in the co-creation will be exonerated, thus revealing the universality of folk poetry, both its process and the concepts it deals with.

The program is aimed at school students of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Rethymnon (Middle Schools – High Schools) and is free of charge.

Reservations for school participation have already started and the workshop will take place in the Artillery Hall, in the Fortezza Fortress of Rethymno with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Rethymno and the patronage and grant of the Ministry of Culture.

Creation – Coordination of Workshop: nomades artcore

The company Nomades artcore has over 20 actions to its credit, both at the educational, research and artistic level and has managed to cooperate with important bodies, to have a stable relationship with municipalities and regions as well as to be subsidized seven times by the Ministry of Culture.

In recent years, our actions have been established in the island field, both in the Cyclades and in Crete in collaboration with the South Aegean Region, the Rethymno Regional Unit, the Municipality of Amorgos, Naxos, Paros, the Municipality of Rethymno, Chania, KEPEDICH-KAM and the Institute of Mediterranean Studies.

In the fall of 2021, the educational art workshop “Teenage Salon” was held in the theater of KEPEDICH, Mikis Theodorakis, and in the fall of 2022 the educational workshop of ecological theater “the man who*” in collaboration with the cultural institutions of Vamos (Chania) and Melambo (Rethymno). Both programs were subsidized by the Ministry of Education and Culture and free for teenagers.

Every time we listen to the needs of the society where we live and accordingly we design programs for children and teenagers. This time we are inspired by tradition and folk poetry, in order to investigate how they work today.
