A few words about the project
The story of Holy dinnersin which the vengeful Atreus forces his brother Thyestes to devour his own children, marks the beginning of the curse of the house of Atreides and constitutes the transfer of the myth to ancient and Roman drama. As can be seen from the fragmentary texts, it has influenced them Greeks and Latins authors who have written plays with this theme. However only this work has been saved in its entirety to our days.
In the crowded archaeological site of the Treasury of Atreus at Mycenae at a historic moment which opened its doors to present the work inside the magnificent vaulted tomb, with its wonderful acoustics, without microphone amplification to alter the natural sound, the audience in attendance had the opportunity to witness the presentation of a precursor work of works of horror and terrorhowever high in power and quality of the speech of the leading Latin writer Leucius Seneca, demanding exhausting and heartbreaking performances by the actors.
This terrifying work of Seneca, on account of his exceedingly hideous narrative it was not played for many years at the theatre. Ilias Malandris first dealt with him in the winter of 2021 for her radio ERTwith the same actors and presented it theatrically in this form this year.
In an informative introductory speech, Prof. Pan. Anna Mavroleon introduced the audience to the study that dictated the manner of performance, which all the actors gave, and the leading dramatist Gonda Van Steen in one online connection commented on the transfer of ancient drama to the Roman theater. The event was filmed for public television.
