AADE – Piraeus: A load of pineapple hid 420 kg of cocaine

In yet another important revelation, the customs auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE), who located and confiscated a load of pineapples, which hid almost 420 kg of cocaine.

According to the AADE announcement, the auditors took advantage the special risk analysis software and targeted for container controlin its port Piraeus, which came from Costa Rica and had a final destination of Georgia.

The declared cargo was crates of pineapples. The Anti-Smuggling men used the special X-RAY machine and, together with the specially trained drug-sniffing dog, Iris, found that, among the fruit, was concealed 419.2 kg of cocaineof value 14.4 million eurosin 297 specially placed packages.

Employees of the Attica Narcotics Prosecution Sub-Directorate of the Hellenic Police and the Coast Guard also participated in the operation. The Prosecution Authorities were informed about the case.

The preliminary investigation to identify the persons involved is carried out by the 3rd Customs of Piraeus.
