The decision to hold an international tender regarding the leasing of the right to research geothermal potential concerning 4 areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Central – Southern Section of the Strymonas River Basin, Serres & Kavala Divisions, Akropotamos, Kavala & Serres Divisions, Western Section of the Nestos River Delta Basin, Kavala Unit Area and Evros River Delta Basin, Evros Unit Area), which present strong geothermal investment interest and indeed in the direction of power generation, the Minister of Environment and Energy signed today, Kostas Skrekas. This decision came after the completion of the institutional framework for geothermal, after 10 years of waiting since the last tender.
The development of geothermal energy is a key priority of the Government, in the context of the objectives of the National Plan for Energy and Climate, as it strengthens the energy security of the country by utilizing domestic energy sources, achieving at the same time a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy savings for consumers. At the same time, the local community is strengthened, the sustainable development of the region through a stable, modern and transparent investment framework with strict safety and environmental protection standards and new jobs are created.
Participants can submit offers until Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Protocol of the General Directorate of Mineral Raw Materials of the Ministry of Energy.
