Strike action by HSBC workers in Greece against its closure
--

All employees of the Bank, we are striking on 05/05/2023 and 08/05/2023 in order to declare our opposition to the Management’s plans to circumvent the law and undermine our labor rights in order to relieve HSBC of its obligations as an employer and achieve a cheap exit from Greece after 45 years of profitable presence.

it is unprecedented for a Bank of HSBC’s scope to choose to leave “through the back door” and indeed by selling its Greek branch stripped of its most important assets, not only without receiving any provision for the working future of its employees who have built and supported its profitable presence in Greece over time, but also reserved for them unfavorable and unequal treatment in relation to the way our colleagues from abroad who worked in other countries of the HSBC Group were treated in similar cases.

As HSBC is the only foreign Bank that has chosen to withdraw from Greece in this way, we are particularly concerned and troubled by the above developments and after much consideration we have come to the decision to resort to strikes
mobilisations, which was also unreservedly approved by 97% of the total number of members of our Association.

The strike is a fundamental constitutional right and we invite all colleagues to mass participation and presence, clarifying that the law fully covers the participation of those who are not members of our Association, to whom we also extend a competitive invitation to participate.

We are also all participating in the gatherings that will take place on 05/05/2023 and 05/08/2023 at 9:30 am. in the building and atrium of Mesogeion 109-111.

The strike concerns the entire network and services of the Bank and only the branches of Bucharest in Athens and Mitropoleos in Thessaloniki will exclusively serve urgent transactions by appointment.

We apologize in advance to our customers and the trading public for any inconvenience they will suffer, hoping for their understanding as our mobilizations are absolutely necessary and a last resort to safeguard our fundamental rights
