Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis: Urgent information on the collection of recyclable materials and waste

In view of the upcoming Easter and summer season, the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis together with the Trade Association and the “TERPSICHORI” Association urge us all to help together for the smooth operation of the collection of recyclable materials from shops and businesses, so that we have a clean and civilized environment in the commercial streets of our city and in the port.

Unfortunately, the phenomenon of the accumulation of a large volume of materials for recycling was observed in central parts of Ermoupoli, specifically on Stamatiou Proiou and Chios Streets, as well as along the Protopapadaki pedestrian walkway on Anafis Street, throughout the day. The picture is unpleasant, since the burden on the roads at the specific points is very big.

The Municipality’s Cleaning Service informed the two Business Associations, which jointly identified the problem.

All three bodies, the Municipality, the Trade Association and the Food Association “TERPSICHORI” know which professionals leave these materials at the points, however we proceed with a polite reminder without implementing the cleanliness regulation.

In this regard, we inform you that:

The collection of recyclable materials (cardboards, cartons and materials

packaging) includes two routes daily, the first from 08:00 to 09:00 and the second from 13:30 -14:00.

THE SATURDAY AFTER 1.30 PM AND UNTIL MONDAY MORNING WE DO NOT RECYCLE, but use the beach’s submersible bin system.

Businesses are requested to separate packaging materials. In particular, the cardboard boxes and packaging boards should be compressed and folded so that they are closed to reduce o their volume and then take them out of their stores.

If a store happens to have some materials for recycling outside of the hours the vehicle will be in, the merchants – businessmen of the area are requested to transfer it to the nearest recycling bins located around our city and at the port or to keep it in their stores until the next route.

Please note that household waste is not collected at the above points.

In this way we will have a tasteful image in the shopping streets of Ermoupoli.
