Dozens of playgrounds of the Municipality of Thessaloniki are being upgraded, beautified and opened for all children, as part of the program “Together in Play – Together in Life”, which is being implemented for the first time by the central municipality of the city.

Currently, extensive interventions are underway in the Municipality of Thessaloniki for the radical renovation of playgrounds, the renewal of their equipment and the integration of games that are safe for use by children with mobility difficulties based on the principle of equal access for all.

“We do everything in our power so that our neighborhoods are filled with color and children’s voices. We are creating attractive destinations for the child and for the whole family, beautiful and safe places, while for the first time in 17 playgrounds in our city we are placing toys for all children, promoting coexistence”, said the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas.

“Inclusivity is not a slogan for us, but a daily effort. Seventeen playgrounds of our Municipality are accessible to all children with spaces for interaction and shared games. At the same time, the playgrounds as a whole are being upgraded, enriched with new toys, so that they will be spaces that will offer joy, free play, socialization”, said Deputy Mayor of Technical Works and Sustainable Mobility Efraim Kyrizidis.

The projects are in full progress

Work on upgrading the playgrounds is in full swing. Already the playground at Parko Fokas on the new beach is changing its appearance with new instruments, some of which are common for all children, with creative games and new floors.

Another four playgrounds have become accessible to all children, those of the Ancient Agora square, Heimarra – Botsari, Amfipoleos – Dimitsani and Mantineia – Tombazi. Other interventions were made in these playgrounds, as well as the Tsiapanou – Goura and Bosphorus – Dardanelles playgrounds were upgraded.

Upgrading interventions, among other things, with the removal of old floors, paving with new tires or turf floors and with the installation of new instruments are planned in many more playgrounds, such as those of: Navarinou Square, Raidestos, Ag. Paraskevi, Galopoulou Square, Claudiano, Koloniari, Peristerion Square, Eptapyrgiou, Ag. Dimitriou – Katsimidis, Eastern Thrace, Kallipoleos – Caesarea, Tsiapanou – Tsami, Tiroloi – Tydeos, Ainou – Marasli, Kipou Ammos, Kipou Rodon, Gennadiou, Miaouli.

The ongoing interventions amount to 1.3 million euros and concern the upgrading of all playgrounds that extend within the boundaries of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. In particular, the overall upgrade of 25 playgrounds and the maintenance of the remaining 37 are planned. In 17 playgrounds, for the first time, instruments accessible to children with disabilities will be installed.
