Bazaar with “mustache… buns” in Thessaloniki for a good cause

--

In an original way, it was decided to raise money in order to buy a defibrillator for their school in Thessaloniki. Everyone decided to “grow”… a mustache.

Even a mustache will make you… ferment! Paraphrasing the legendary line of the Greek film with Zoe Laskaris and Phaedon Georgitsis, the actors and initiators of the event in Thessaloniki will make us, not shave, but let’s all put on a mustache.

Either by kneading mustache-shaped pretzels, or putting a digital mustache on a photo on an online platform, this special action aims to raise money for the purchase of a defibrillator for a school in Thessaloniki.

The portico of Columbus will smell of musk in the morning Saturday November 26, from 11am to 7pm and those found will decorate mo-cookies (mustache cookies), with colorful and imaginative sugar pastes in the shape of mustaches, conveying the message of information, prevention and treatment of prostate cancer and other forms of cancer affecting the male population. The month of November is dedicated worldwide to the importance of early diagnosis of prostate cancer, which is the second most common malignancy in men after lung cancer.

“They tell me we’re going to eat…moustakokouloura”, said the volunteer UN Humanitarian Ambassador, journalist Alexandros Tanaskidis, speaking to the radio station of the Athenian/Macedonian News Agency “Agency 104.9 FM”, explaining that everyone – without any age restriction – can make their mustache and …help our heart.

“We’re going to make mustache cookies as part of movember . The mustache is a symbol that unites the whole society to a common problem. So we too will join forces to highlight all social issues and give them visibility above prejudices. At the core will always be man. In fact, this year, we join our voice with the “Kids Save Lives” First Aid Training, Learning and Certification Organization to strengthen its work and together we manage to acquire another defibrillator”, explained Mr. Tanaskidis.

In parallel with this action, the digital campaign “we dress photos of official, famous and ordinary people” is running, which has been embraced with a lot of love and aims to bring health issues to light and to be included in routine examinations.

To the question “why was the period mustache chosen, which resembles his moustache Hercule Poirot“, Mr. Tanaskidis replied that “through a symbol we bring too many issues that have to do with the absolute right and access to free health services. Having the state offer services is the ultimate recognition for the citizen and this is something that concerns us all, whether it concerns us or our neighbor. We have people with mustaches from all genders, all walks of life.”

Movember started in Australia and quickly spread around the world as the month to raise awareness of how important it is to include a prostate exam as a routine exam in a man’s medical visit agenda.

The defibrillator that will be purchased will be placed with the help and training of students and teachers from the organization “Kids Save Lives” (a member of the European Resuscitation Council), which after training 100,000 children since 2010, now also trains adults, while with innovative learning methods presented for the first time in Greece, it certifies trainees young men and women who manage to bring our fellow human beings back to life, with their timely intervention.

The cookies will be sold for 2 euros each and all proceeds will support together with “Kids Save Lives” the purchase of a school defibrillator, thanks to the significant sponsorship of the production support of the cookies, from Koukumeria Bakeries.
